St Brigid’s Church

COROFIN

Introduction

Welcome to St Brigid’s Church, Corofin.

St. Brigid’s church dates to the 1820s and is one of the oldest churches in Killaloe Diocese and one of the earliest to be designed by an architect, the brothers George and Richard Pain. It is also one of the oldest buildings in Corofin that is still in continuous use since construction over 200 years ago. Fr. John Murphy was the Parish Priest at the time of construction and he is associated with Daniel O’Connell and the monster meetings held locally. A feature of this cherished building that attracts attention is its central location in Corofin not too far from the Church of Ireland. Over the course of its history the building has seen some major works such as the raising of the roof and the installation of the galleries, installation of a Harry Clarke window of the Sacred Heart and reordering in the 1960s to adapt to the vision of Vatican Two.
