St Joseph’s Church

KILNABOY

Introduction

Welcome to St Joseph’s Church, Kilnaboy.

St. Joseph’s church dates to 1967. Previous history recalls mass houses in this area. The Ordnance Survey of 1840 records the construction of a church in Kilnaboy in 1725. In 1846 it was replaced by a rectangular barn church structure that was in use up until the construction of the present church which was consecrated in 1967. A feature of this church is the retention of the stone plaque depicting the Crucifixion which is imbedded into the Altar. This plaque goes back centuries having been transferred from one church building replaced by another. Other wood carvings in the sanctuary are the work of local artist Shane Gilmore.
