Saying YES to Lent
We approach the threshold of the season
of Lent …. As if on cue .. The Gospel for
today reminds us of a great challenge in
our lives .. The ability to simply say yes,
with meaning … our yes to Lent as a time to
look within, breathe in a journey that sheds
light, just as the season of Spring does to
nature, light on the roots of faith that
nourishes and gives strength to us as we
gently find our way out of winter … not just
the season of darkness but the darkness of
our anger, fractured relationships, harsh
judgements … and that’s just beginning
with our reflection of our relationship with
self, then we can begin to reflect on our
relationship with others and maybe, just
maybe, how we can allow the Good News
of the Gospel influence a new springtime
relationship with self and others.
If only, to emerge from a Lenten season
emboldened in our desire to be hope filled
and enthusiastic to greet Christ as risen in
self and in to seek Christ risen in others.
That … would be truly an Easter reward to
the YES we had said at the beginning of
Lent. …. Vote YES next Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday 18th February.
