Jesus: The Good Teacher
Jesus.: the Good Teacher “Jesus said to his Disciples: there is no need to be afraid, little flock, it has pleased your Father to give you the Kingdom” … Luke 12:32‐48 Jesus the teacher sets about through the following discussion with the Disciples how best they might achieve this goal. “See that you are dressed for action and have your lamps lit” … ‘ready to open the door when the master returns from the wedding banquet’ .. ‘it may be in the second watch he comes, or the third’ … As this encounter continues it becomes apparent to Peter and the Disciples that Jesus, the teacher, is placing a responsibility on them to be prepared by the way they treat others … ordaining them to be stewards placed over the household, faithful and wise, placed over the masters household giving them their allowance of food at the proper time. Like the Good teacher, Jesus doesn’t spoil his Disciples but rather places the responsibility on them to work out how to set about receiving this gift the Kingdom, This gift the Father was pleased to give them. The secret here is Jesus as the good teacher . Memory as that student in school who had an older sister much smarter than me who was born to be and did become ‘the good teacher’ … memory of coming home from school with homework I’d no desire to spend time over, asking for help … which really meant, ‘give me the quick solution .. Or even .. Do the homework for me!!!! …. Which never happened, her response was always the same … ‘I’ll help you work it out, but you need to know how we reach the conclusions’ … this response didn’t suit this impatient, disinterested, lacking in confidence student, but turns out she was right . It seems, Jesus and my sister read from the same teacher manual … Jesus, once challenged by Peter in this story, wondering “Lord, do you mean this parable for us”? … and … Yes … “Happy that servant if his master’s arrival finds him at his employment” The quote from Mustafa Kemal Ataturk “A good teacher is like a candle— it consumes itself to light the way for others” … Jesus went so far as Calvary to assure his Disciples and us of God’s desire to give us the Kingdom, he sent them, and now us, to be the stewards who will ‘give the allowance of food at the proper me to those for whom we are the nurturers of the coming of this Kingdom. |
