Pope Leo “I urge every Catholic parish in the world to take part in Mission Sunday”
- October 19, 2025
Catholics around the globe will come together on this Sunday, 19 October, to celebrate World Mission Sunday, the annual appeal, from the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV, for both spiritual and financial support for the Church’s missionary work overseas.
This year’s theme, ‘Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples’, reflects the urgent need to support missionaries who work tirelessly in some of the world’s most impoverished regions. Our missionaries serve in communities across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, often living alongside those they serve, offering not just religious support, but also education, healthcare, and social care.
In a special video message released ahead of the event, Pope Leo calls on the faithful to respond generously: “I urge every Catholic parish in the world to take part in World Mission Sunday.”
World Mission Sunday, which always falls on the second-to-last Sunday of October, is a vital source of funding for missionary dioceses that depend on international solidarity. The appeal is organised by Missio, the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission.
Parishes support for World Mission Sunday helps the ‘Young Church’ around the world, specifically, to build churches, train priests and religious sisters, and fund pastoral programmes in some of the most neglected corners of the world.
